A 41-year-old South African man has been sentenced to two years in prison.

This man is identified as Xolisile Mavuso and this was contained in a recent statement released by the South African Police Service.

PORT ALFRED – A 41-year-old Xolisile Mavuso Bathurst resident who was a parolee was recently sentenced in the Port Alfred Magistrates Court.

On Monday 14 September 2020 at approximately 10:00, a local resident and his wife left their house to do shopping in Port Alfred, all windows and doors locked. On the same day at about 11:00 the complainant received a call from the local security company that thevalarm went off at their house.  On their return to their home at around midday, the complainant discovered that a metallic blue bicycle was missing. He went to the local SAPS and reported the matter.

The following day, Tuesday 15 September 2020 a case of stock theft was reported from a farm at the Bathurst SAPS.

The local investigating officer, received information about stolen pig meat and a bicycle hidden at a certain house. He immediately proceeded to the house with members of the Stock theft unit, and on their arrival, they found the suspect in possession of pig meat and a blue mountain bicycle at the house. Both the meat and the bicycle were linked to the cases that were reported. The bicycled was valued at R10 000-00 and the meat was valued at R1500-00.

The accused was found guilty of housebreaking and theft and sentenced to 2 years imprisonment, and on the charge of stock theft which he was also found guilty on he was sentenced to 8 months imprisonment.”
