Bala Hassan, a 25-year-old man has been sentenced to two years imprisonment for allegedly referring to the police as thieves. He was handed his sentence today after he was convicted by a Yola Criminal Area Court 2.

Bala was detained in Yola on Monday, September 19, during a crime prevention patrol led by Inspector Ishaya Buba of the Jimeta Police Division and charged with having dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, according to court documents.

After being taken to the divisional police headquarters for additional inquiry after giving an unsatisfactory story, he cursed the cops, accusing them all of being thieves.

Bala allegedly stated in a First Information Report (FIR) filed in court by Inspector Danjuma Hamidu that he would sooner die than join the Nigeria Police Force because police officers are crooks.

On Tuesday, September 21, after admitting to calling police officers thieves, Judge, Hon Nuhu Musa Garta sentenced him to two years in prison with the option of an N50,000 fine.

In other news, the Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Otchere Darko-Mensah has disputed claims made on social media that the 28-year-old woman who was reported to be missing but was found yesterday was pregnant.

Recall, it was made public that a 28-year-old woman identified as Josephine Panyin Mensah was kidnapped by some unknown persons. According to the report, Josephine was 9-months pregnant before being kidnapped. Well, the good news is that the lady was found on Tuesday, 21st September 2021 but she was neither with a pregnancy or a baby.

Per reports, she was found in Axim after five days of search. She did not return home after her Thursday, September 16, dawn routine walk.
