Garba Haruna, a suspected counterfeiter, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for defrauding unsuspecting members of the public near Computer Village in the state’s Ikeja area.

Garba was arrested after his victim raised the alarm after accidentally seeing him close to the same location where he had been swindled engaging another customer, according to SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the State Police Public Relations Officer.

He claimed that after being apprehended, the suspect confessed to the crime. In the statement, the police PRO said;

“The Rapid Response Squad unit of the Lagos State Police Command has arrested a notorious currency counterfeiter who specialised in duping unsuspecting members of the public within Computer Village in Ikeja area of Lagos metropolis.

The suspect, Haruna Garba, 38 years old, was arrested after a victim he had duped in August 2022, raised the alarm after unexpectedly sighting him again, dubiously engaging a customer, close to the same place he had been swindled.

Preliminary investigation indicated that Garba, who was found with fake $700, has been in the fraudulent business of fake currencies for over three years after he was tutored by his late master.

The Commander, RRS, CSP, Saheed Egbeyemi, has in line with the directive of the commissioner of police, Lagos State, CP Abiodun Alabi, transferred the suspect and exhibits to the State Headquarters for further investigation and eventual prosecution.”
