Oyeyinka Oyetunde, a medical doctor, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter of a patient in an Ikeja Special Offences Court in Lagos State.

Tola Esan, the prosecutor’s counsel, told the court that the defendant committed the crime on June 16, 2020, on 1, Ajibade Oke Street, Isolo, Ikeja, Lagos.

She claimed that the doctor neglected the patient, only identified as Uchenna. According to the prosecutor, the offense violates Section 229 of the Lagos State Criminal Laws of 2015.

The defendant, who was charged with one count of involuntary manslaughter, pleaded not guilty.

In his application for bail, defence counsel Abayomi Omotunbora urged the court to allow his client to continue the administrative bail granted by Chief Magistrate G.O. Abayomi of an Ebute Metta Magistrate’s Court.

Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe granted the request, noting that the defendant’s antecedents did not indicate a flight risk.

The court allowed him to remain on bail with the condition that he provide the evidence for which he was granted bail within seven days of Tuesday.

The case has been postponed until December 19, 2022.
