Nigerian Olympic champion Etim Bassey has reportedly been left to his own fate after his flamboyant weightlifting career ended after a muscle breakdown.
Etim Bassey had won several laurels for Nigerian at various competitions such as the African Weightlifting Competiton in Egypt and the 1981 National Sports Festival.
After suffering a serious injury, the Nigerian government abandoned him to foot the medical bills all by himself with his little money earned in America.

According to a report by YEN.com.gh, Etim begins his community work as early as 4 am to fix the road in order to curb the worsening conditions of Traffic on the roads.
He has reportedly resorted to doing all sorts of menial jobs for survival.
Until recently, Etim Bassey had no place to lay his head thanks to the benevolence of some Nigerians.
