Genevieve Nnaji was born on May 3, 1979, in Imo State but grew up in Lagos with her parents and siblings. Her father Theophilus Nnaji worked as an engineer and her mother Benedatte Nnaji as a nursery school teacher. She hails from Umuebi Amuzu in Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State.
In the early 2000s, the actress and filmaker became the first Nigerian actress to feature on the Oprah Winfrey Show. She also became the first to get a major endorsement deal with a worldwide renowned brand, Lux soap. She also bagged many firsts, including over 10 movie-related awards and multiple nominations. It’s also worthy to note that she launched St. Genevieve, her clothing line, which she still runs to date.

Several reports claim Genevieve Nnaji’s is now a billionaire thanks to her Lionheart deal with Netflix. Genevieve is reportedly the second highest-earning actress in Nollywood with her net worth sitting at around ₦800 million (over $2 million) in 2018.
