On the altar of the Holy Fountain Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Oda Road, Akure, Ondo State, a newborn infant was discovered deserted.

When members of the church entered the facility in the early hours of Wednesday, November 24, they heard a baby sobbing, according to reports.

They discovered the newborn wrapped in green clothing, thrown on the altar by an unknown individual.

Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, a spokeswoman for the State Police Command, confirmed the event and said the infant had been given over to the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.

“The baby was initially in our custody, but now we have handed over the child to officials of the ministry of women affairs.” she added.

In other news, the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) has commented to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) decision to put Willie Obiano, the governor of Anambra State, on its radar.

In a letter dated November 15, 2021 to the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, the anti-graft agency requested that the Service place the governor on a watchlist and notify it whenever he leaves the country through any of the country’s international airports or other exit points.

It’s unclear why the governor was put on a watchlist by the anti-corruption agency. However, informed sources speculated that the move could be an indication that the agency is quietly probing the governor and has information that he plans to travel after handing over office to his successor, Charles Soludo, in March 2022.

In a statement made in response to this incident, Evangelist Chinedu Obigwe, the National Coordinator of the APGA Media Warriors Forum, branded the development as the work of the “sore losers” of the state’s recently ended November 6 governorship election.

According to Obigwe, who is also the national president of Igbo Youth For Positive Change,“Governor Obiano has done nothing wrong that will warrant him being placed on EFCC watchlist, but some evil forces that are hell-bent on spoiling the ongoing celebration mood of ndi Anambra want to use EFCC to achieve their evil plan.

“They will definitely wear the garment of shame because Governor Obiano does not have any skeleton in his cupboard and he has nothing to fear about EFCC.

It’s important for me to remind Bawa, the EFCC chairman, that Governor Obiano on the assumption of office for his second term invited Ibrahim Magu, the former EFCC chairman, to Anambra to lecture his appointees on how to run a corruption free government.

If the governor has a skeleton in his cupboard, he will not take such a commendable bold step.

I condemn in its entirety the attempt to create the wrong impression that Governor Obiano has plans to run out of the country after handing over to his successor.

The governor does not have such a plan and he is ready to give an account of his eight years stewardship as Anambra governor.”the statement read
