Olanrewaju Fasasi nicknamed Sound Sultan was best known as a singer until his death, but few people were aware of his significant involvement in elevating Nigerian basketball to a whole new level before his passing.

During a recent game session, the national basketball team, the D’Tigers, paid homage to the late artist.

A post that showed viral on social media showed the moment the teammates observed a minute of silence to pay tribute to the singer, who was a huge supporter of the team while he was alive.

The players wore white t-shirts that had been customized with a picture of the late Mathematics musician and his name, in addition to the quiet that had been observed.

The team captioned their instagram post saying,

“We lost a member of our family this week. D’Tigers will honor the great Sound Sultan with these warmup shirts tonight. RIP. Your legacy will live forever.”

In a strange twist of fate, Sound Sultan died on Sunday, July11, which happened to be the same day that the national basketball team beat the United States in an exhibition game before of the Tokyo Olympics.

The team’s eulogy sparked a conversation on social media among fans.
