The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has announced that there is no state in the country that is free of coronavirus.

On Monday, during the media briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in Abuja, Chikwe Ihekweazu, NCDC Director-General, declared this reacting to the allegations that Cross River State hasn’t recorded any case of COVID-19.

Ihekweazu said, “No state, no single state in Nigeria is COVID-19-free, not one. No country in the world is COVID-19-free. Even New Zealand, that is an island state is still having new cases after a period of not having any.”

“We can’t separate ourselves from the rest of the country. We live in a context, viruses spread, it’s the nature of them, so right now no state is COVID-19-free. That’s why we have to keep doing this work that we are doing, testing people, finding out if they have it.”

On Sunday, the NCDC revealed that no new state has recorded any COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours.

As of 11:30 pm on Sunday, it continued that 20, 244 cases have been confirmed, 6,879 cases have been released and 518 deaths have been recorded in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
