A suspect who reportedly threw away a weapon while fleeing from being arrested by the police have been nabbed.

One of the police officers who were patrolling in the area – the Bloemendal area made this known. According to him, shortly after a suspected member of the Satan Defenders gang allegedly shot dead a rival gangster, he fired a warning shot after seeing the man he was pursuing tossing a firearm away.

The policeman who is known as Sergeant Jacques Jezive indicated that he and his partner were on patrol in the area on July 8 2018, when they heard gunshots.

He added that as they arrived in Bardien Avenue, they were alerted to a suspect, Morne Featherstone who is 20 years. He stated that he and his partner drove up to Featherstone and pulled up next to him.

In his submission, he said;

“When I opened the door [to get out], he turned around and ran.”

The suspect, Featherstone, allegedly threw a firearm away while fleeing and darted into a house in Bardien Avenue.

During a recent court proceeding, the suspect and his accomplice who is identified as pleaded not guilty to three counts of attempted murder, one of murder, two counts of contravening the Prevention of Organised Crime Act and two counts each for the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
