One of the biggest moments that happened in the Nigerian Music Industry is how celebrities engaged in the ENDSARS movement.

More celebrities lead the protests of ENDSARS which brought huge attention on them.

Unfortunately, some suffered government criticism by pitching them against inciting the masses to protest against the Nigerian government.

One of the artist is Davido. who was labelled to be anti-government and was accused of leading protests against the government.

Other musicians like Wizkid, Burna Boy, Falz, Simi, Tiwa Sage and Yemi Alade all spoke their voices against SARS and called for it’s end.

2 Peruzzi And Chioma Rape Scandal

In the first six months in 2020, Peruzzi was accused of breaching contract with his old record label Golden Boy Entertainment. It issue was about Peruzzi committing copyright infrigement.

Fast forward, controversial investigative journalist, Kemi Olunloyo, accused him of having an affair with Davido’s fiancee Chioma.

Peruzzi became the talk of town within thise period of her troubles in 2020.

3 M.I Part Ways With Chocholate City Record Label

M.I Abaga

Working with Chocolate City Records for 13 good years, Rapper M.I Abaga rose from being a signed artist to President of the lable.

He also signed incredible artists on the label and worked hard to contribute to the imense success of Chocolate City Records.

However, M.I made history in 2020 by parting ways with his erstwhile record label.

M.I announced his exit from Choc City via his social media page to start his own label, Incredible Music imprint. To kick off the new journey he also launched a new EP ‘Tribe of Judah’.

4 Picture Kodak’s Demise

In April 2020, the Nigerian music industry was thrown into mourning over the demise of popular video vixen Picture Kodak (Love Divine). Until her death, she was a top dancer who featured in popular music videos. Kodak had reportedly died from electrocution which she suffered at the home of ace music director, Clarence Peters. The death of the dancer drew a lot of reactions within the music industry.

5 DJ Cuppy Became The First African to Host Apple Music’s ‘Africa Now’ Radio Show

Nigerian disc jockey and singer, DJ Cuppy surely had an amazing 2020. From bagging massive endorsement deals to receiving luxury gifts, and releasing her debut album, Original Copy. However, the one deal we are focusing on is the one she bagged with the online music platform, Apple Music. Cuppy make history when she was announced as the new host for “Africa Now” making her the first African to host a radio show on the platform.
