‘Eyadini’ hitmaker Mlungisi Buthelezi popularly known in the music circle as Manqonqo, reveals he is dying of hunger because the giants of the industry have apparently ignored him.

Back in 2018 Manqonqo’s hit song ‘Eyadini’ was the anthem in South Africa. It surprising to find out that 3 years down the line the muso behind the single says he is now struggling to make ends meet.

Speaking to Isolezwe, Manqonqo said he only received a chicken change in royalties for his hit single which got him wondering where the rest of the money has gone to. The muso who broke into the music scene in 2018 said his hit song only made him R4000.

May be this might be because he was not signed to any record label when he released the single. According to Manqonqo he only got apprached by a record label called UJU Records after his song has topped the charts.

He also mentioned that he is currently struggling to get bookings and perform at events due to the pandemic.  “I do not know where the rest of the money went. I do believe there are people who are feeding off of my hard work,” he told the paper.

He further added that he suspects the company of cheating him, but he is not sure of that. In an email sent to the publication, the Southern African Rights Organisation (Samro) clarifies any error.

The company claims Eyadini royalties were paid off in 2018 but according to their records, Manqonqo is not the owner of the song. They then advised him to talk with the owners of the song.
