There’s no debate about this, Obrafuor is Ghana’s best rapper ever. The new crop of rappers like Sarkodie and M.anifest always pay homage to him and it’s just refreshing to note he’s been given the deserving recognition he deserves.

Unfortunately music has evolved and rap game has taken a different dimension but he’s yet to catch up with it.

His recent songs don’t match up to his dexterity back in the days when Hip-life was in its experimental stage.

It would be best if he grooms new talents than wasting his money on songs and music videos that are not getting him anywhere near current chart toppers like Sarkodie, Edem, E.L, M.anifest and the rest.

I believe the time has come for him to take the back seat and use his immense experience and knowledge to groom new artistes, just like Richie and Bullet are doing.

Perhaps the reasons I’ve outlined below to substantiate my point could convince you.

#1. His Singing Sucks

sarkodie

For some strange reasons, Obrafuor decided to transition from a hardcore rapper to a singer and I must confess his singing ability is nothing to write home about.

He has lent his horrible voice on some of Sarkodie’s songs and although the songs turned to be hit, it’s actually Sarkodie’s rap which practically saves the the day.

Don’t get me wrong, Obrafuor is a gifted songwriter and a rapper, not a singer. He should leave that aspect to KK Fosu, Kwabena Kwabena, and the other contemporary High-life musicians.

#2. Rap Has Evolved, Obrafuor Has Not

Rap is actually the acronym for Rhythm And Poetry. Every rapper has his/her approach. Like I said in the introductory paragraph, the rap game has evolved but Obrafuor is still stuck in his past.

His style does not appeal to a lot of people now so if he really wants to compete with the top guns, he should come out with ‘wild’ verses that will instantly strike a chord with his audience.

#3. He seems to be reliant on Sarkodie

Sarkodie is in a league of his own and as such every artiste likes to collaborate with to bolster their chances of making an impact in the industry and that’s the path Obrafuor seems to be towing.

For goodness sake, a song will still be a hit without any feature from Sarkodie. You could argue that it’s Sarkodie who has benefited from him the most but a keen follower of the music industry will observe that Obrafuor wants to use Obidi to climb back to the top again which will ultimately mean he has to rely him often.
