Award-winning author Zakes Mda was caught in an altercation with a tweep who misunderstood him for his comment on the Jacob Zuma and Robert Sobukwe comparison.

It all started when Jacob Zuma took a leaf out of anti-apartheid activist Robert Sobukwe by stating that he would not co-operate with the state inquiry capture even though the constitution compel him to do so. In a statement released by his foundation, Zuma stated that he does not fear going to prison if his decision is considered as a violation of the law.

His statement led to many people comparing him to Robert Sobukwe which sparked a heated debate on social media. Zakes Mda weighed in on the topic when he tweeted:

“I knew Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe (who we nicknamed Prof after he got a job as a teaching assistant at Wits). I can assure you, Jacob Gedleyihlekisa Zuma is no Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe.”

Many sided with Zakes that Zuma cannot be compared with Robert Sobukwe while others hit out at the award-winning author by claiming that Zuma had not explicitly said he was Sobukwe.

Zake clapped back at the tweep by saying that he should read and understand before commenting because he is an author and he uses figurative language in his writing.
