Apparently, 18 African leaders have all died whilst they were still serving their people, with the latest one being the sad demise of Tanzanian president, President John Pombe Magufuli.

The Tanzanian government announced the death of President John Magufuli, 61 on Wednesday, two weeks after he went off the radar, fuelling speculation that he had contracted COVID-19.

The list which was compiled by African Fact Zone, reveals that Morocco’s King Hassan II was the first leader to die in power at the age of 70 when he failed to survive Pneumonia in 1999, followed by Niger’s Ibrahim B. Mainassara who was assassinated in the same year during his reign as President.

The information which was compiled using an infographic, also reveals what culminated in their deaths. Recall that in the build to the 2021 elections, Ghana’s President John Evans Atta Mills died from throat cancer, which threw the whole nation into a state of mourning despite the political tension at that time.
