The passage of the Right To Information Bill which was initiated by former president Jerry John Rawlings in the year 1999 has waged many diversified controversies from tycoons in the Media fraternity and lawyers.

Member of Parliament for the Suame constituency Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu in an interview has highlighted how journalist and other stakeholders can acquire information.

According to the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs in charge of government business
Journalists and other individuals may be required to pay something small as processing fee before they are furnished with any information under the Right to Information (RTI) law.

“For example, one needs certain information from the officer on express, he could be asked to pay something small as much as GH¢5. 00 or GH¢10.00 as processing fee”

, he said in an interview on Hello FM.

Highlighting on some benefits of the law after it has received cabinet approval to become law, he said it will be binding on private and public institutions serving the public interest to give information out.

He noted that the full implementation of the law will however protect certain information one is seeking from any institution especially when it bothers on security of the nation.
