Parliament approved by majority decision and by consensus the appointment of 13 ministerial candidates for President Nana Akufo-Addo.

While 10 were approved by consensus, three were approved by majority vote in the plenary chamber after an extensive debate on the recommendations made by the Appointments Committee.

Those whose approvals were obtained by ballot were Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, designated Minister of Information; Hawa Koomson, Designated Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture and Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Designated Minister of Food and Agriculture.

Lawmakers spent several hours from Wednesday, March 3, 2021, until early Thursday morning debating the report.

Once that process was completed, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, gave the deputies the opportunity to decide whether or not to approve all three by secret ballot, at the end of the polls, a total of 265 votes were cast.

NDC members on the Nominating Committee had previously criticized the approval of Oppong Nkrumah, Afriyie Akoto and Hawa Koomsoon for issues they raised against the nominees during their background investigation.

Ministers who were approved by consensus on the floor of the chamber include Sarah Adwo Safo, Minister-designate for Gender, Children and Social Protection; Matthew Opoku Premeh, Designated Minister of Energy; Dr. Yaw Adutwum, Designated Minister of Education and Dominic Nitiwul; Designated Minister of Defense.

The others are Albert Kan Dapaah, designated Minister of National Security; Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Designated Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration; Dan Botwe, designated minister of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development, Ambrose Dery, designated minister of the Interior.
