Civil engineer and former general secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, holds Asiedu Nketia accountable for the emergence of insult-based politics in Ghana.

In Ghana’s political arena, insults are now a common occurrence. People take advantage of this digression to become infamous and unforgiving in the eyes of the youth in an effort to gain their favor.

People who fall within this category frequently receive promotions or seats at high places or positions.

When questioned about the shift from politics focused on issues to politics based on name-calling and obscenities, Kwabena Agyepong responded that he would hold Asiedu Nketia of the NDC and the late Sir John formerly of NPP responsible.

“I blame Asiedu Nketia and I have told him this. He started that thing.

“Ghanaians have a character, we respect elders so we should not insult in character…When he said a lineup of 17 thieves I called him and said Asiedu you are running down the whole political establishment in the eyes of Ghanaians. They are no thieves and they and you have no business doing that.

“The situation was compounded by my predecessor because he came and he was giving pound for pound. Sir John which I think he shouldn’t have and that was one of the motivations for me to become General Secretary to restore us back to our values and to elevate the discourse. This is a serious country of 35 million people so we have to elevate the discourse,” he said on Good Evening Ghana on Metro TV.
