Dominic Nitiwul, Ghana’s Minister of Defense, has dismissed claims that the country’s bloated ministerial appointments are to blame for the catastrophic economic position.

Dominic Nitiwul asserted that the nation’s current problems are unrelated to the number of appointees the current administration now employs.

Such allegations, according to Mr. Nitiwul, are false because the current size of the government has no influence on the current economic challenges.

“Generally, how much is a Minister paid…that you think that the failure to reduce the Ministers is the reason Ghanaians are suffering? It may not be necessarily the case…Mahama’s government had between 85 and 86, we have similar numbers now, so to pin it [size of government] on the suffering of the masses is far-fetched,”

 he argued.

The defense minister cleared the Akufo-Addo administration of any blame for the difficulties encountered during the National Cathedral construction.

Dominic Nitiwul asserted that it is a positive development that the government is helping to build a single house of worship for Christians.

“If you tell me Government has no place in helping the church where a catholic and Pentecostal can worship, it is not fair. The government continues to spend on religious bodies. We may criticize all that is being done, but let us not criticize what is being done for God.”
